When considering the present condition of Miyako Island, we feel a sense of crisis about loosing rich nature quickly. Under land improvement, the field is the most imminent to the coastline which causes the outflow of red clay containing agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizer to the ocean.
It is said that "if a mountain dies, the sea will die". Rain is supposed to bring rich nutritious substances of a forest to the sea which increases phytoplankton to support the food chain of the sea. (Oshiro 9/20/2009) |
