env-6 Ensure Water Supply
One of the eternal themes in detached islands is the reservation of water resource.
Water resource is limited on small islands and it is highly possible that water could be polluted by agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizer from adjoining cultivated land.
We need to find better solutions to stabilize the amount of non-contaminated water supply.

Fortunately, there is an underground dam in Miyako Island that is of a large scale regardless the actual small size of the island. The present condition seems satisfactory since people can maintain a secure life with the blessed water condition.
However, the water environment of this island would be greatly influenced if the tourist industry develops in the future. If one million tourists visit Miyako Island, one person consumes about 140 liters of water every day, so that can result in a large amount of water consumed.
We also need to have a plan for synthetic water supplies and follow-up scientific surveys to contamination of agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizer to maintain a high water quality.
