As for airport issues, regardless of which airport worldwide, one direction finally comes out after the hopeless long negotiation process between the government and people.
In most cases, people in the district who should be concerned as a third party are not included in the negotiation. It seems as if the voices of the citizens are not heard, and when the government did make proposals of constructing an airport, it was said to be beneficial for everyone.
Then, what should be done in the case of Shimojishima airport where there are no benefits for people? (Oshiro 9/20/2009)

The runway scale of Shimojishima airport is large enough for international airlines of long distance flights for take off and landing. I think that Shimojishima airport should be used as a dispatch base for shipping emergency supports or urgent medical aids to help the whole of Southeast Asia, assisting UNICEF, aid agencies of the United Nations, International Red Cross, and other medical supporting groups as well as the Japanese government and private sectors.
If storage facilities of support goods from other countries are built on Irabu Island (where Shimojishima airport is), management organizations are needed and that gives employment opportunities to the locals.
Moreover, the huge merit is that if the United Nation and other countries recognize Shimojishima airport as an emergency dispatch base for whole South Asia, it can build the sanctuary status and continuously keep the peaceful role under the territorial issue around the adjacent-sea domains of southwest islands.
Since I greatly agree with the meaning of the Yuuyanaure Miyakojima Project with the function of economic research institutes, we can work together to get methods for the efficient use of Shimojishima airport. (Akinori 11/06/2009)

This is a continuation of 001. If this project is thought of as an "International Storage Base at Shimojishima Airport for Southeast Asia Support", the following are some of the merits of this airport. |

There are no civil aviation companies operating regular service, so there are no time restrictions for take off and landing. Therefore, emergency flights are able to land and departure at anytime according to situations in distressed areas that need immediate emergency support. |

Japanese Self-Defense Forces or U.S. Forces do not have any plans to use Shimojishima Airport as a military base, so any international organizations can make plans for the future to store donated goods. |

The runway capacity is big enough that large-sized jet planes flying long-distances are able to land and departure. |

There are fuel tanks which can refuel transport aircrafts easily and efficiently. |

It is possible to build storage facilities within a close range of Shimojishima Airport. Such support centers would be able to store, classify, and repack donated goods. |

We can hire talented people in Miyako Island who are capable of performing high quality management at storage bases. |

The Shimojishima Airport area is covered with a reliable, highly advanced broadband communications backbone, which is an exceptionally enhanced network in small islands.
