Some islands are already covered by doctor helicopters, but many other islands are not that lucky.
This cluster is to collect a variety of ideas to save the lives of urgent patients by adopting useful suggestions and propositions. |

The most serious problems for people living in small islands are injuries and other critical physical conditions that need emergency medical care.
This cluster is to find solutions for each of the following agendas:
1. Emergency transporting methods to the nearest available ER of general hospital.
2. Alternative solutions when the aircraft or helicopter cannot fly because of bad weather.
3. Find unconventional method of generating funds to supporte families of patient to cover expensive emergency transport cost. (Oshiro 9/20/2009) |

When speaking of emergency medical transportation, it sounds like they only arrive during accidents or emergency cases due to natural disasters. But I think there are also many cases, such as the sudden change of the disease conditions which you see the symptoms or can predict what's going to happen beforehand. (Oshiro 10/25/2009) |

As for living on an island, the most serious problem is definitely having to pay a price for neglecting proper preparation.
When the worst scenario happens, in many cases, it is too late physically and timely. Big risks should be avoided by performing full examinations and require hospitalization before patients become critically ill. I hope there can be a special research or project to help this matter.
