Sources of protein, such as egg, chicken, pork, and beef are carried to detached islands on a daily basis from a distance including foreign countries. With additional cost of transportation, people on islands are buying the same products in supermarkets in Tokyo. My question is, why we cannot produce enough livestock for local people on our island, since these are highly consumed products.
What is the reason that the livestock produced on islands cost more? Do we really need expensive imported feeding grains to prevent sickness or to increase productions?

I've just read an article that said, "The best way to dispose kitchen garbage completely is to keep two hens." Hens eat everything, as long as food like fish, meet and vegetable are minced. (If you are concerned about the heavy metal contained in the internal organs of fish, those should be incinerated, not fed.) Though, it's impossible to keep hens at homes in big cities, it is possible in most houses of an island. If those hens lay eggs, they will be safe eggs. Moreover, we can grow vegetables at home gardens full of nutrition with home made compost by using chicken droppings.
We can get multiple benefits by keeping chickens at home. (Rika 10/27/2009)) |
