ssd-3 How to Increase Self-Sufficiency in Food
Cultivated area on islands may be small, as a population.Iit may not be so difficult to increase the food production with limited crop land.
Problem is, who can cultivate and grow food?
This cluster is to find who and how vegetables and other farm products are grown in small islands.
001
Real value of self-sustain in small remote islands is determined by the self-sufficiency rate of foods. Self-sufficiency ratio of food in Japan is about 40%, which is the lowest among advanced nations. However, Okinawa is much lower at 28%.
We need to survey food production for future extensional projection and planning.
