Eco-Tourism may be the most desired industry for people of small islands.
However, tourism has a tendency turn into a double edged sword to local people, economically and ecologically.
It’s about time we develop a new approach to ecologically friendly tour packages which may be a meritocracy to the nature and the economy of island. |

Although eco-tourism sounds very attractive, ecology and tourism are contradicting.
Whatever the explanation is, eco-tourism means stepping in to nature for the purpose of sightseeing with less impact to nature. However, it would influence nature in one way or another.
Remote islands of the world have carried out various works aiming to revitalize islands using the tourist industry. However, if we continue the development from the view of the tourism industry, the charm of islands will soon be lost, and a tourist's interest will move to another untouched islands.
There are many examples where islands have lost its attractions by excessive developments and cannot recover the original beauty.
The purpose of this cluster is to find a new approach to make small islands the most attractive visiting destinations for ecologically friendly tours even 100 years from now. (Oshiro 9/20/2009) |
